Just about everyone knows how to swim, but few know how important a role the Hip Flexor plays in it. Before we get to the importance of the Hip Flexor we should first look at swimming in a little more detail. Swimming is a natural activity that people have done since the beginning of time. It provides a means for entertainment, cleaning, and to escape in survival situations. To swim people simply breathe in air to keep afloat and then move their arms and legs to move through the water. The most common swimming technique is the front crawl, where people float on their stomachs and propel themselves using a crawling motion with their arms and a flutter kick with their legs. The flutter kick aspect of this relies almost solely on the Hip Flexor. When a person drives their leg down into the water, they use their Hip Flexor in order to lift their leg, and since they are upside down this pulls the leg under the water to provide forward movement.
